This Map Replaces Each State With A Country Generating The Same Amount Of GDP

The United States produces a lot of stuff and generates a lot of money from that stuff.  To help visualize the size, American Enterprise Institute’s Mark Perry created a map that shows just how massive America’s $18 trillion economy really is.

The map compares each state’s gross domestic product (GDP) with the national GDP of other entire nations.

There were two things I found really interesting. First, California’s GDP is about $2.5 trillion, which puts it slightly above France’s GDP. California has about 40 million people as compared to France’s population of 66 million, which means California produces the same amount with 40 percent fewer people.

Also, Texas produces as much as the entire country of Canada.
