It is not just this marine’s beautiful voice that will bring a smile to your face as he sings Michael Buble’s “Home.” It is the obvious joy emanating from the plane full of soldiers. They have spent months away from families—and finally they are on their way home.
I can remember being on the other side of that, waiting for my father to arrive home from duty. Seeing him coming off the plane, holding back until he got across the line where I was allowed to hug him. The tears inevitably began to flow with the emotion of the year’s longing finally bubbling over. He was home. He was one of the lucky ones. He was safe.
The sacrifices of these soldiers and their families go deeper than many will ever know. Enjoy your time home, soldiers, may it be all that your hearts have longed for. You have more than earned it.
