Matthew McConaughey Is Chauffeuring College Students To Keep Them Safe

Alright, alright, alright!

You don’t normally see A-list actors chauffeuring college students around via golf cart. But then again, this is Matthew McConaughey we’re talking about. Anything can happen when he’s around his alma mater. Whether it’s teaching a class or giving a rousing speech to its football players, McConaughey has been a fixture at the University of Texas.

He can now add “volunteer golf cart driver” to his list of alumni contributions.

McConaughey was recently found driving students around campus as part of UT’s SURE (Students United for Rape Elimination) initiative. Every night from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., students can hop a ride in a golf cart anywhere on or off campus for free. Students can also have someone walk them home, making sure they’re safe at all times.

In the video posted online by the University of Texas Student Government, you can see students freak out that their driver is an Oscar-winning actor. You can also hear McConaughey ask his co-pilot where to go and giving the students the universal “Hook ‘Em” hand sign as he drives by.

The week before his chauffeur stint, McConaughey delivered Thanksgiving meals to Austin families as part of the Meals on Wheels program. Along with Governor Greg Abbot, McConaughey was happy to help deliver warm meals to those in need.

“They don’t know who I am, they don’t know that I’m in movies or anything, I introduce myself as Matthew and they go ‘hi’ and they are happy that somebody would just take the time out on Thanksgiving to come by bring the meal,” McConaughey told KXAN. “That’s what they’re happiest about.”

McConaughy is an Oscar-winning actor who could easily just keep to himself. But, clearly, he’s a pretty selfless guy and wants to make sure everyone is doing alright, alright, alright.
