Matthew McConaughey celebrated his 48th birthday on Nov. 4—and he spent the day giving back. The actor helped to hand out 4,500 free frozen turkeys to people in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, home of Wild Turkey Distillery. McConaughey is Wild Turkey’s creative director.

In a Facebook Live video, McConaughey announced that he and 250 volunteers, including employees of Wild Turkey and other community members, would deliver turkeys donated by Butterball to get folks in the Thanksgiving spirit a little bit early.

“Thanksgiving, gratitude, we believe in our family that the more you’re thankful for, the more that you show gratification, the more that you’re gonna create in your life to be thankful for,” he said in the video. “I think it’s kinda scientific and here’s kind of living proof of it right here this morning.”

The project, called #WildTurkeyGivesBack, seemed to be a lot of fun for all involved. McConaughey posted another video of himself delivering a turkey to group of women who appear pretty thrilled to meet him (rightly so!).

The women told him they call themselves “the hot mamas,” to which McConaughey cheekily responded, “That’s my nickname for my wife [Camila Alves]. I can’t call y’all that.”

He took a few selfies with his fans, and they wished him a happy birthday. Before he departed for his next stop, one of the women quoted McConaughey’s famous catchphrase: “Alright, alright, alright!”

Other lucky fans who got a chance to meet McConaughey posted photos of themselves with the actor to social media:

“Surprising the good people of Lawrenceburg, KY with Thanksgiving turkey deliveries form this guy. #WildTurkeyGivesBack,” one Instagrammer wrote.

Yelp Lexington was out on the scene to capture the delicious deliveries.

The turkeys came with a card reading “Thank you, Lawrenceburg! From your neighbors at Wild Turkey”

“When volunteering has a slight benefit…#wildturkeygivesback,” wrote a volunteer.

McConaughey even stopped one young lady on the street and asked to read her shirt? Why, you wonder? It read: “Make Kentucky Alright, Alright, Alright.” Clever!

Kudos to Matthew McConaughey for surprising so many people with Thanksgiving dinner and making his fans’ day.

Although, we’re sure the $4 million contract McConaughey received to be the Wild Turkey creative director helped sweeten the deal. Here’s the first ad McConaughey directed and starred in for the brand. What do you think?
