Matthew McConaughey’s 3 kids made a rare red carpet appearance
Matthew McConaughey is no stranger to the red carpet, but his three kids rarely make an appearance at these events. McConaughey typically has his wife, Camila Alves, by his side. So it’s certainly a special occasion when the entire family — even the actor’s mom — shows up in support.
On Feb. 27, the actor was honored at the Texas Medal Of Arts Awards in his hometown of Austin, Texas, so it made sense that the notoriously private family man would dress up with his family for the event.
His three children, 10-year-old Levi, 9-year-old Vida and 6-year-old Livingston, couldn’t have looked more adorable. Levi wore a three-piece plaid suit and looked just as dapper as his dad. Vida added a pop of color and wore a bright lavender dress and last, but certainly not least, little Livingston pulled out all the stops in a tiny tuxedo.
Meanwhile, mom and dad looked just as sleek and stylish as they always do when hitting the red carpet. McConaughey wore a gray suit and tie and his wife wore a boldly-printed floor-length gown. McConaughey’s mom was also in attendance, looking elegant in a little black dress.
All in all, they’re one well-dressed family:
McConaughey also had his whole family with him for another special moment — when he was given his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2014. His youngest child was just 2 years old at the time, and the entire brood looked so cute:
While McConaughey loves being an actor, he told GQ in 2014 that becoming a father is what he’s “always wanted to be”:
“It’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to be,” he told GQ. “I knew when I was 8 years old. I mean, I wanted to be things like the Washington Redskins running back and all that stuff, but the one thing I knew I wanted to be was a father.”
And while the dad might not bring his kids to major events that would put them in the public eye often, he says they’re always with him when he has to travel for work.
“Early on, Camila said she’d love to have kids but there was one deal, ‘You go, we go,’ which is a dream for me,” he told Red Magazine. “So if I’m working, that’s part of my deal. I come with the family, so … They’re always with me at work.”
While McConaughey loves his fatherly duties, he also admits that having three kids at home can feel like you’re living in a “circus.” On the “Late Show with David Letterman,” he credited his wife as the one who can handle it all.
“I’ve got a wonderful woman though,” he said of wife Camila Alves. “She’s the ringleader of the circus!”
Clearly, teamwork makes the dream work for this family!
Their red carpet appearances may not come often, but given how this family likes to stay together, he’s really always got them by his side. How sweet!
