This Man Built An Incredible Replica Of Maui’s Hook From ‘Moana’

Oh My God Facts By Diply/Facebook

It’s hard not to love Disney’s “Moana” — the story of a determined girl who tries to stop a curse plaguing her island home is brave and uplifting. Thanks to its funny moments from Dwayne Johnson, who plays a demi-god named Maui who travels with Moana across the sea, even adults get super invested in this movie.  To prove just how much one man can adore a Disney film, this talented guy built a real-life replica of the hook that Maui carries in the movie.

As you’ll see in the video below, which documents the entire process, this man’s wood-working skills are impressive. Beginning with what looks like nothing more than a few two-by-four blocks of wood, he creates a hook that is practically identical to Maui’s:

It may not have magical powers—but that doesn’t make it any less incredible. Especially with that glow-in-the-dark feature. Too cool!

If you’re interested in creating a real-life version of Maui’s hook for yourself and your kids, there are online tutorials that show you how it’s done.

This example uses foam to craft a life-size hook:

This one will show you in more detail how to make a kid-size version out of wood:

Of course, you’ve got to be pretty handy to pull off these DIYs, so if hitting the store is more your speed, we certainly don’t blame you. Luckily, there are some great options available online. Stores such as Walmart and Toys “R” Us carry versions your kids will love.

This version of Maui’s hook lights up and is only $8.99 from Walmart.

Toys “R” Us also carries a version of Maui’s hook for $19.99.

If you’re still looking for a way to get crafty with your kids, there are also much more simple “Moana”-inspired recreations you can tackle.

For instance, if you’re not ready to make Maui’s hook, you could try making Moana’s necklace instead.

This video will show you how to create the pendant using polymer clay:
