McDonald’s Is Bringing The Stroopwafel McFlurry To America

McDonald’s locations around the world are known for their unique menu items that reflect the local cuisine. One such special menu item is the Stroopwafel McFlurry, which is offered in the Netherlands. For the uninitiated, the stroopwafel is a Dutch cookie made of two super-thin, crispy waffles with a layer of caramel syrup in between.

Naturally, these tasty treats make the perfect mix-in for a McFlurry milkshake. Check it out in a snap posted by a user to Instagram:

But don’t worry if you won’t be making it to Amsterdam anytime soon, because the Stroopwafel McFlurry is poised to make its debut in the United States. According to internal documents obtained by Business Insider, McDonald’s is planning to add four “Worldwide Favorites” to its stateside menu, including the waffle cookie-filled McFlurry.

But that’s not all: Other international treats coming to a McDonald’s near you include the Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger from Spain, the tomato-mozzarella chicken sandwich from Canada, and the cheesy bacon fries from Australia. Expect these new menu items to show up in early June.

Even in the Netherlands, the Stroopwafel McFlurry is not a permanent menu item, so its appearance in the United States is extra-special. Back in September 2018, about 50 McDonald’s locations in southern Florida got to try out the Stroopwafel McFlurry, along with three other global menu items, on a temporary basis.

Last year, a new 6,000-square-foot McDonald’s opened in Chicago, and it also offers a smattering of international menu items, such as the Brazilian McFlurry Prestigio, which features strawberry sauce and chocolate-covered coconut bites.

“As part of our new headquarters, we wanted to provide our customers with an exciting way to experience our global menu right here in Chicago,” Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s president and CEO, told Fox News. “We are delighted to showcase a taste of McDonald’s from all over the world making this location a one-of-a-kind experience that Chicagoans will enjoy with friends and family.”
