McDonald’s Is Giving Away Free Bacon—For One Hour Only

Mark your calendars!

Bacon-lovers, rejoice! McDonald’s is giving away free bacon. Before you freak out, though, there is a catch: The fast-food chain will only give away bacon for a very limited time.

On Jan. 29, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. local time, customers will be able to score Applewood smoked bacon with anything on the menu at no extra cost. The nationwide event is dubbed Bacon Hour, and it’s probably going to be pretty popular.

The company had previously announced the debut of three menu items featuring bacon: the Big Mac Bacon burger, Quarter Pounder Bacon burger and Cheesy Bacon Fries. These classics with bacon will be available for a limited time beginning Jan. 30.

But during Bacon Hour on Jan. 29, you can add bacon to literally anything — even ice cream. Try a sundae with a bacon garnish. Looks like the perfect salty and sweet snack!

“When we said there’s no such thing as too much bacon, we weren’t kidding. Jan. 29, we’ll be upping the bacon ante — the bac-ante, if you will — and celebrating this glorious food favorite like never before,” chef Michael Haracz, McDonald’s manager of culinary innovation, said in a press release. “I love bacon. America loves bacon. I really can’t wait to see the crazy and daring combinations our customers put together.”

There’s no denying that many people love bacon. In December 2018, the Ohio Pork Council set up a bacon vending machine in the Animal Science building at Ohio State University. Students could get items like cooked bacon strips and bacon bits for just $1. Unsurprisingly, the vending machine was a huge hit, and the machine had to be restocked four to five times a day.
