Congratulations are in order for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as the two have officially become parents.
“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz,” the couple’s official Instagram account announced early on Monday morning.
It goes on to read, “The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”

An official announcement was also posted outside of Buckingham Palace, as is tradition:
Before the baby’s arrival, the parents-to-be announced that they would not be partaking in the tradition of showing the baby off on the hospital steps shortly after giving birth. Instead, they decided to celebrate “privately as a new family.”
“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family,” the palace reportedly said in a statement.
So, while fans shouldn’t expect to get a glimpse of the baby boy just yet, Prince Harry, the proud dad, couldn’t help but already share some of the more intimate details of his experience thus far as a new father.
“It’s been the most amazing experience I could have ever possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension,” the dad told reporters shortly after welcoming his son.
You can see a clip from the interview on the Sky News YouTube channel:
He also announced that the wait for the world to finally meet baby Sussex wouldn’t be too long:
“We’ll see you in probably two days time … so everyone can see the baby,” he said.
He also admitted they were still thinking about names for the boy, despite having had “some time to think about it,” given the fact that the baby was “a bit overdue.”
We can’t wait to find out what name they choose!
The couple first announced they were expecting a child in October 2018. The official Kensington Palace Twitter account tweeted the news writing, “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019”:

Baby Sussex will be the seventh in line for the throne. Whether the baby will have a royal title or not, however, depends on if the Queen decides to bestow a title upon Baby Sussex.
As Simplemost previously reported, King George V, who is Prince Harry’s great-great-grandfather, placed a limit on the amount of “His/Her Royal Highness” titles that can be given out, which would exclude Prince Harry’s children from receiving such titles, according to Mirror UK.
With the baby’s name and more still a mystery, there’s much to look forward to as we gear up to find out all the details about Prince Harry and Markle’s latest addition. Exciting times, indeed!
Congratulations to the new parents!
