Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just shared their baby’s name

The moment that fans of the royal family have been waiting for has finally arrived. Proud parents Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle have announced the name of their new baby boy.

The newest royal baby was born in the morning on Monday, May 6, and since then people have been waiting to find out his name. Markle and Prince Harry took to Instagram on May 8 to announce that their baby boy is named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

On their official Instagram page, the royal couple shared the first photos of their son as well. In this candid black and white shot, great-grandparents Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and grandmother Doria Ragland can be seen admiring their new grandson:

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” reads the caption. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

Before the name announcement, the couple also shared a slideshow of three images of their new family of three:

“Today The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to share their first public moment as a family,” reads the caption. “They are so incredibly grateful for the warm wishes and support they’ve received from everyone around the world, since welcoming their son two days ago.”

So far, the new parents are smitten with their son.

“It is magic and it is pretty amazing,” Markle told reporters on May 8 of her first days of motherhood. “I have the two best guys in the world. And so I am really happy.”

She also added that Archie has thus far been an easy baby.

“He has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm,” she said.

New dad Prince Harry also gushed about the experience of parenthood.”It has only been what, two and a half, three days,” he said at a press conference. “We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious time as he slowly starts to grow up.”

The announcement of the newborn’s names comes just days after the royal duo confirmed the birth of their new baby boy.

The news came via the couple’s official Instagram announcement, with an image reading, “It’s a BOY!”

“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz,” the caption read. “The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”

An official announcement was also posted outside of Buckingham Palace, as is royal tradition:

The new parents broke from the tradition of showing the baby off on the hospital steps immediately after birth. Instead, the two opted to take a couple of days for themselves before introducing their son to the world.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family,” the palace said in a statement ahead of the baby’s arrival.

Prince Harry did, however, take a few minutes to speak to reports about the birth, and he couldn’t contain his joy.

“It’s been the most amazing experience I could have ever possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension,” the dad told reporters shortly after welcoming his son.
