Meghan Markle, Prince Harry interview with Oprah: Sneak Peek

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer senior members of the royal family, they can do and say what they want. So they’re grabbing the opportunity with both hands, and sitting down with the queen of talk shows, Oprah Winfrey, for a two-hour primetime special set to air on CBS on March 7.

CBS has released two short teaser trailers for the interview — the couple’s first joint interview since getting engaged in 2017. They don’t give much away (what would the point be in that?), but the clips do drop a few hints. It’s pretty clear that the conversation is going to be intense and frank.

At one point in one of the trailers, which you can watch below, Winfrey says, “You’ve said some pretty shocking things there.” She also asks Markle, “Were you silent, or were you silenced?”

And we know that no subject is going to be off-limits, because Oprah says so herself. She also reportedly told her best friend Gayle King that it was her “best interview ever” — and that’s saying something. She’s interviewed everyone from Whitney Houston to Barack Obama.

Winfrey attended Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018. Now that the couple has moved to California, they are Winfrey’s neighbors in Montecito, in Santa Barbara.

A Daily Mail correspondent told Access that Prince Harry and Markle’s decision to do the interview “really does not sit well with the royal family,” adding that there is “a lot of anger and frustration toward Meghan and Harry” over the fact that they’ve decided to sit down on primetime TV and “potentially air some really embarrassing revelations.”

But now that the couple has officially broken away from the royals, the Palace has no control over what they can say.

During the second short trailer, Harry reveals how he feels about his new life, living in California with his wife and young son and having another baby on the way. He referred to his late mother, Princess Diana.

“For me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side, because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her, going through this process by herself, all those years ago,” he said, referencing Diana being hounded by paparazzi. “It has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other.”
