Meghan Markle’s mom joined her to host a luncheon in London
On Sept. 19, Meghan Markle held an event at Kensington Palace to cook dishes from “Together: Our Community Cookbook,” a charity cookbook benefitting Hubb Community Kitchen, an organization that was founded in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire in London. The organization and the cookbook represent one of Markle’s first official projects as a royal.
“Together” features more than 50 authentic and diverse recipes from the women who were affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
“Every dish tells a story of history, culture and family, and each has been developed to use few ingredients and easy methods so that anyone can cook these personal recipes,” reads the publisher’s description of the book.
The Duchess was joined at the event by both her husband, Prince Harry, and her mom, Doria Ragland. They looked on with pride as Markle gave her first public speech since joining the royal family.
Watch the video of her remarks, posted to YouTube by The Royal Family Channel:
Markle described the cookbook as a “labor of love,” and went on to explain how the project embodies what she sees as “the power of food.”
“When we get to know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it,” she said in her speech. “That’s what we’re talking about in terms of coming together to really engage and talk and to be able to celebrate what connects us rather than what divides us. That, I believe, is the ethos of ‘Together.'”
Guests enjoyed a feast of recipes from the cookbook, including coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala and chapatis.
Adorably, Prince Harry provided both his moral support and some practical hair care when a gust of wind blew Markle’s hair around her face, and Harry attempted to smooth it down.
Could Prince Harry be even more perfect? 😩 He adorably saved Meghan Markle from what could have been a hair disaster. https://t.co/yrMalENbSr pic.twitter.com/FGATcOHsFk
