Meghan Markle’s Mom Was There For The Birth Of The New Royal Baby Boy

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child is finally here, and everyone is eager to learn all the details surrounding the birth of the newest member of the royal family. The baby boy made his debut on May 6, and while we don’t yet his name, or even where he was born, we do know that Meghan Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, was there to help welcome her grandson.

The official birth announcement states that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex safely delivered a son at 5:26 a.m. on Monday morning. He weighed in at 7 lbs. and 3 ounces. Of course, dad Prince Harry was there, and the announcement notes Ragland’s presence as well.

“The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage,” the announcement read:

Ragland and Markle have a tight mother-daughter bond, so it’s no surprise that she was on hand for the birth of her first grandchild. She was very involved in helping her daughter plan her May 2018 nuptials, and she reportedly gets on wonderfully with her royal son-in-law.

Markle credits Ragland, a social worker and yoga teacher, with teaching her about the importance of kindness and helping others.

“My mom’s a yoga instructor, but she does social work, as well, and she works specifically with the geriatric community,” Markle wrote about her mom in a 2017 essay for Glamour about the 10 women who changed her life. “For me to watch this level of life-long sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time my mom has always been a free spirit.”

She also compared her mom a “best friend” in the piece. “We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support,” she added. “That duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend.”
