Melissa McCarthy handed out secret ham sandwiches at the Golden Globes

When it comes to awards shows, this isn’t Melissa McCarthy’s first rodeo, and she proved it at the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards held on Jan. 6. Not only did the actress look stunning in a purple dress while walking the red carpet, but she also remembered to pack snacks to share so that the actors and actresses in attendance wouldn’t get hungry during the lavish affair.

Dinner is served before the cameras ever turn on to broadcast the Golden Globes award ceremony, so Hollywood’s elite doesn’t exactly go unfed the night of the awards show. But the longer the show goes, the hungrier the stars get — unless they happened to have a seat near McCarthy this year.

McCarthy, who earned a nomination for Best Actress for her role in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” managed to sneak in 30 ham and cheese sandwiches from Joan’s on Third to share at the event, according to Variety.

Some fans of both the actress and the Los Angeles cafe and market took this as a message from the universe:

McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone, have two daughters, 11-year-old Vivian and 8-year-old Georgette, so you could also chalk this up to a typical mom moment. What parent doesn’t have a snack, sandwich or some other treat on them at any given moment?

The actress seemed pleased with her decision to share snacks and told Variety, “I’ve been handing them out to everyone.”

She even has plans for what she’ll bring to the next Golden Globes: “Next year, I’m bringing hot dogs,” she said. That sounds amazing!

Others in attendance were also grateful for McCarthy’s preparedness. Olivia Colman even mentioned the snacks in her acceptance speech, saying, “Thank you for the sandwiches — amazing.”

And Variety’s Mark Malkin tweeted that not only was the sandwich appreciated, but it also tasted “really good:”

While McCarthy certainly showed she knows how to do awards shows, she mentioned on her Instagram that she can’t take all of the credit for her flawless 76th annual Golden Globes look. “It takes a village, a face mask, a hubby and a constellation,” she captioned a photo that captured her getting ready for the red carpet.

She did look stunning in her fun, star-covered dress and swept-back hair when she hit the red carpet:

But the evening wouldn’t have been complete without those sandwiches. Here’s to McCarthy for thinking ahead!
