Michael Buble on his son’s battle with cancer: ‘I’ve been to hell’

If you’ve missed Michael Bublé and his charming music lately, don’t feel alone — many others have too. But the “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” singer has fortunately returned to singing this year, and opened up about the horrible ordeal that pulled him away from his career in the first place.

Bublé quit singing in 2016 after his 4-year-old son, Noah, was diagnosed with liver cancer. His wife, actress Luisana Lopilato, also put her career on hold as they focused 100 percent on Noah’s health. The singer has said the experience has been every bit as tough as you’d imagine.

“I’ve been to hell,” Bublé recently told Australian newspaper the Herald Sun about his family’s experience with Noah’s cancer, according to Billboard. “I don’t talk about the whole story, not even to my friends because it hurts too much … But I’ve been to hell. And you know what, hell seems like a really nice place to vacation compared to where we’ve been.”

Lopilato and Bublé have spent a lot of time in the last couple of years focused on Noah and his younger brother, 2-year-old Elias. And to Bublé, considering the circumstances, that was what felt right.

“Family is what matters,” Bublé told the Herald Sun, according to Us Weekly. “The health of my children is number one. The relationship with my family, my wife, my faith — all of it is easily number one.”

Now that Noah is doing better, however, Bublé has been able to return to music and performing; just last week, he played to a Croke Park stadium of 70,000 fans in Ireland. But Noah’s battle with liver cancer gave him a newfound appreciation for what his music career meant, both to him and his fans.

“I’m going to go back to a world that needs love and romance and laughter more than it has in a long time,” he told the Herald Sun. “I’m going to be a conduit to that.”

Not only that, but Bublé, Lopilato, and their two little boys have one more reason to celebrate: the family of four is expecting their first baby girl. With that happy news, Noah doing much better and Bublé returning to his career with a renewed love for it, it seems like things are going well for the Canadian singer and his family —a victory well-deserved after two difficult years.
