Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Michael Phelps and his wife Nicole welcomed the newest addition to their family on Feb. 12! The Phelps’ grew to a family of four as they welcomed their second baby boy.
The proud dad shared a photo of the newborn on his Instagram. Say hello to Beckett Richard Phelps:
“Magical moments yesterday… Nicole and I would like to introduce Beckett Richard Phelps to the world! We had a healthy baby boy and a healthy mama,” he wrote on Instagram. “I truly do feel like the happiest man in the world. Being able to build our family to now 4 (6 with doggies) is so incredible!”
His wife shared a photo of the foursome on Instagram as well, writing:
“Our family grew by 1 yesterday. Meet Beckett Richard Phelps. I’m surrounded by boys and I couldn’t be happier.”
Baby Beckett joins the couple’s first son, one-year-old Boomer, who is psyched to be a big brother. A photo was posted to Boomer’s personal Instagram reading:
“I am officially a big bro!!! All I wanna do is hold him! I can’t wait til I get to teach him so many cool things about the world!!”

But he didn’t just announce it to fans online — he was also crucial in announcing it to his dad! Phelps told the story of how he found out his wife was expecting to Us Weekly.
“I kind of had an idea that she could be pregnant … I could tell she was acting, not different or funny, but I could tell that she wanted to say something,” he told the magazine. “Nicole had made this little journal for me of photos of just Boomer and I and photos of Nicole and I and experiences, and we just put like special moments in that little journal. I woke up [one] morning, and she handed me the journal and said ‘Open it.’ I opened to the photo of them in the backyard with the pregnancy test. I was pumped!”
After nine months of anticipation, the baby boy is finally here. Congratulations to the Phelps family!
