Michael Phelps retired from swimming following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, but that doesn’t mean this dad’s slowing down. He’s the father to Boomer, who recently turned 1, and Phelps and his wife, Nicole, just announced they’re expecting baby number two.
The announcement came via Instagram. Both parents posted a photo of Nicole holding Boomer with similar captions reading, “Number 2 on the way!!! So excited!!! Wonder if it’s a boy or girl??”

Their son has his own personal Instagram account, and even he couldn’t miss out on the action. To Boomer’s account, the parents posted, “So excited to see what mama is having! Do I get to have a brother or a sister?”

So, clearly, the family is very excited to welcome its newest member!
Phelps has said Boomer is the “best thing to ever happen” to him, so there’s no doubt that he’s loving being a father.

When Phelps spoke with People magazine back in April, he admitted that he was looking forward to having more children—he and Nicole just didn’t have the timing down just yet.
“Nicole and I, before finding out [about Boomer] thought we’d travel around the world for a bit and have a honeymoon, but sometimes life isn’t exactly what you think it will be,” he told the magazine. “We are so fortunate to have a healthy and happy baby and hopefully more coming soon, but we don’t know when.”
He went on to say, “We’re going through life everyday happy and blessed with what we have. But I hope to have more kids in the future.”
And it looks like the time is now! In just a few months, Boomer will have a little brother or sister to splash in the pool with—because yes, he already loves the water!

“We basically hop in [the pool] two or three times a week,” he told People. “Boomer loves it, he floats around in our hands trying to swim butterfly. He loves being in the water and he doesn’t mind going under.”
But really, what else did you expect?
Congratulations to the (expanding) Phelps family!
