NakeFit are barefoot adhesive pads meant to replace your flip-flops—but do they work?

Hot sand and steamy sidewalks can make bare feet miserable during the summer. But if you can’t be bothered with flip-flops while you’re out and about, a new product on Kickstarter might be your hot weather go-to. Relief comes in the form of adhesive pads for the bottom of your feet called NakeFit.

Where You’ll See Them

“NakeFit is the ultimate way of protecting your feet in every circumstance,” the company says in its Kickstarter video. They say the pads are perfect for four main locations: rocks, sand, pools and spas. They’re waterproof, so they work well for a pool or beach trip. The pads also protect the bottoms of your feet from cuts if you’re running around on sand or taking a walk, and they’re non-slip, so you can confidently strut around the pool. Plus, NakeFit is hypoallergenic.

“We invented Nakefit to keep your feet effectively protected and at the same time support all of the amazing things it can already do,” the founders write on Kickstarter. The pads come in black, pink and light blue, and in sizes for men, women and children.

Funding Goal Met

After a year of development, they came up with the version of the product they’re selling and jumped on Kickstarter to raise funds. NakeFit reached its funding goal of $22,312 really quickly, and it currently has raised more than $240,000.

Backers can pledge a variety of amounts to receive a NakeFit or a multi-pack of them, starting at 5 euro (about $5.50), and going up to a family pack for 90 euro or more (about $100 U.S.) that comes with 30 pairs.

Keep In Mind…

Some people have voiced concerns about yet another disposable product hitting the shelves. NakeFit sells multi-packs of sticky pads, and you throw them away after each use.

“It can last up to 24 hours,” according to the Kickstarter page, though the company says the product “is produced without harming people, animals or the environment.”

Take note, though, that the NakeFit may not be your best bet for everyday footwear during the summer. The Huffington Post reports, “podiatrists don’t approve of flip-flops because of their lack of support, so going nearly barefoot likely isn’t any better.” It’s all about that arch support.
