Neon makeup is a bold new beauty trend—here’s how to pull it off
Forget natural beauty and earth tones. One of the biggest beauty trends on the spring fashion runways this year was bold neon makeup. And now, everyone from Kendall Jenner to Cardi B has embraced wearing bright colors!
First popular in the 1980s, neon makeup has made a serious comeback in the last several years. Today, it isn’t just limited to fuchsia lipstick and purple eye shadow. The love of these hot hues has expanded to hair and nail color, but eyeliner and eye shadow seem to be the most popular ways to wear this technicolor trend.

Emma Stone also wore neon green eye makeup at a red carpet premiere for the film “The Favourite” in late 2018. Her makeup was done by Rachel Goodwin, who shared the photo.

Meanwhile, Margot Robbie chose an electric blue eyeshadow color for the EE British Academy Film Awards.
In 2017, she also tried out an orange eye makeup look for the premiere of the movie “Goodbye Christopher Robin.”
Never one to shy away from bright colors, Cardi B matched her makeup to her multi-hued purple hair in this Instagram pic.
Nicole Richie literally shimmered with her bold eye paint at the Revolve Awards.
While pulling off a neon look can be intimidating, you can easily experiment with these hues in more subtle ways without having to commit to all-over eye or lip color.
Nail polish has been referred to as a “gateway drug” for neon colors. And tinted mascara, like NYX Color Mascara, can make your eyes pop with pink, blue and other exciting shades in just a few applications.
