This New Clear Coffee Won’t Stain Your Teeth

If there’s one thing coffee (and tea) drinkers despise, it’s the well-known fact that our favorite way to wake up in the morning can also leave some serious stains on our teeth. But have n0 fear, coffee lovers, the future is here—and it’s clear.

That’s right, clear coffee. All the caffeine, none of the stains. The brothers behind Clear Coffee (Clr Cff for those in the know!), David and Adam Nagy, say it’s the first colorless coffee drink in the world. (But not the first clear caffeinated drink—remember Crystal Pepsi from the ’90s and randomly the summer of 2016?)

Clr Cff is made with Arabica coffee beans and water, produced by “methods which have not been used before.” It has four calories per bottle and clocks in with 100 milligrams of caffeine—a little more than regular coffee, which is about 95 milligrams a cup. According to the label, there is no fat, cholesterol or carbohydrates and only 5 milligrams of sodium. There are also no preservatives, artificial flavors, stabilizers, sugar or any other sweeteners.

“We are heavy coffee drinkers. Like many other people we struggled with the teeth stains caused by it. There was nothing on the market that would suit our needs, so we decided to create our own recipe,” David told the Evening Standard. “Because of the hectic lifestyle we lead, we wanted to make a refreshing, ready-to-drink coffee which provides the boost, but is low in calories.”

The brothers have not said how they removed the color from the coffee, but it’s probably safe to same some serious science was involved.

“The production method is based on physical processing and doesn’t include any chemicals,” David said.

For now, Clr Cff is only available in the U.K. and Slovakia, but if it catches on, perhaps coffee drinkers all over the world will be trading in their usual cup of joe for this new clear concoction.
