The New Mary Poppins Movie Cast Is Perfection

Brace yourselves, “Mary Poppins” fans: There’s a sequel coming, and if the cast is any indication, it’s going to be awesome.

The Disney film, called “Mary Poppins Returns,” is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2018. Merry Christmas, indeed!

Variety reports that Emily Blunt (who showed us her singing chops in the Disney musical “Into the Woods”) will star as Mary in this follow-up to the original 1964 film. In “Mary Poppins Returns,” which will be written based on the original Mary Poppins novels, Mary returns to visit grown-up Jane and Michael Banks, and Michael’s three children, after the family suffers a tragedy. If there’s anyone who can help a family heal, after all, it’s Mary.

Blunt (pictured below with husband, John Krasinski) holds dual American and British citizenship and was nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical category.

Excitingly, the film will also star Lin-Manuel Miranda, the powerhouse playwright and star of the hit Broadway show “Hamilton,” which won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, in addition to being nominated for a record 16 Tony Awards. Miranda will play Mary’s friend, a street lamp-lighter named Jack.

In other exciting sequel news, Disney also recently confirmed to Variety that it is planning to make “Cruella,” an “101 Dalmatians” spin-off with Emma Stone.
