There’s a new Oregon Trail board game and it’s only at Target

Target

If you’re nostalgic for the olden days (as in, say 1990), we’ve got you covered! There’s a new tile-based Oregon Trail board game hitting the shelves and board game lovers, not to mention those nostalgic for the ’90s, are going to love it!

The Oregon Trail: Journey to Willamette Valley is similar to the beloved computer game many kids played at school back in the day: the year is 1844 and you and your family have joined a wagon train in Independence, Missouri in order to make the dangerous journey to Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

Along the way, players will discover the trails, rivers, forts and towns on the trail. Like in the video game, players will also face natural dangers like rattlesnakes and drowning, as well as run the risk of contracting diseases such as cholera. You will need to hunt for food so you don’t starve and you may have to choose between your supplies and your family members as you move along the trail.

In a press release from the new board game’s creator, Pressman Toy points out the main difference between the new Oregon Trail board game, the recently released Oregon Trail card game and the PC classic: “Unlike the cooperative nature of its original games, The Oregon Trail Card Game and The Oregon Trail: Hunt for Food, the newest game will be a competitive strategy board game with every wagon out for themselves.”

Talk about hardcore gaming! Here is a video that explains how to win The Oregon Trail board game:

The Oregon Trail: Journey to Willamette Valley is available exclusively at Target. And if you really want to kick it ’90s style, the Internet Archive hosts a streaming version of The Oregon Trail, along with other classic computer games like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man and Tetris, to round out your vintage gaming experience.

Happy trails … and don’t die!
