Apple Launches Red iPhones For Charity
Black, jet black, silver, gold, rose gold… and now bright, gorgeous red.
Apple’s latest addition to its iPhone 7 lineup is the loudest color yet, and it comes with another statement, too: that you support the fight against AIDS.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition will celebrate Apple’s decade-long partnership with (RED). Bono started the organization with Bobby Shriver (a Kennedy family member) in 2006, with the goal of making an AIDS-free generation a reality. Many companies sell red products to support the fight against AIDS, donating some of the proceeds from each sale.
Deborah Dugan, the CEO of (RED), said in a statement:
Combining the global reach of the world’s most loved smartphone with our efforts to provide access to life-saving ARV medication in sub-Saharan Africa, customers now have a remarkable opportunity to make a difference and contribute to the Global Fund through the purchase of this new beautiful (PRODUCT)RED iPhone.
All money raised by (RED), including more than $130 million from Apple alone, supports Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants. The grants support HIV testing, counseling and other programs “with a specific focus on eliminating the transmission of the virus from moms to their babies,” the organization says.
The red iPhones have all the advanced features of the existing iPhone 7, including advanced cameras, extended battery life, enhanced color quality and more, according to Apple.
Prices start at $749. The models will be available online and in stores in more than 40 countries and regions, from the U.S. to Spain to Brazil to New Zealand. But act fast if you’re interested! Sales start on Friday, March 24 and these special edition beauties will likely be snatched up quickly.
Apple’s other partner products that support (RED) include the Apple Watch and Beats Headphones. Of course, if you’d like to support the fight against AIDS in another way, (RED) offers a full list of products by participating companies. Current items include an ALEX AND ANI bangle, a pajama set and even a Vespa.
