‘Sesame Street’ Is Coming Back To The Big Screen

Sunny days will soon be sweeping the clouds away—on the big screen!

That’s right, a new “Sesame Street movie is officially in the works. If the new episodes of this classic children’s show now playing on HBO aren’t enough to satisfy your “Sesame Street” thirst, you now have a film to look forward to watching.

According to Screen Rant, director and producer Shawn Levy—you may know him from producing such things as “Arrival” and “Stranger Things”—is on board to create the new adaptation. Levy is also the creative force behind the “Night at the Museum” trilogy, so he’s no stranger to working on films that are suitable for both adults and children alike. He tells Screen Rant that’s exactly what he’s trying to capture with this film, too.

“’Sesame Street’ is at Warner Bros, and we are right now working on a treatment for what I think is going to be a really imaginative and entertaining take on that beloved and decade old global brand,” he said. “The trick there is to honor these characters that are beloved but in a movie that feels entertaining for the kids who we might bring to the movie but humorous on that second level for those parents who bring their kids. It’s early. We’re still at the treatment stage, but very bullish on that.”

So, with Levy on board, there’s no way this film isn’t going to be entertaining for all audiences. Adults will see the characters they know and love, but with a newfound appreciation this time around.

Since this isn’t the first time the TV series has been adapted for film, they’ve got to be sure to get it right. This new film will follow previous feature-length takes on the classic TV show. The most recent film, “The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland,” came out in 1999, and who can forget the 1985 classic “Follow That Bird”?

There aren’t many other details to share for now, but this is all still very exciting! It’s going to be good to see Elmo and the gang again. Now, off to Sesame Street we go!
