Nickelodeon’s ‘Double Dare’ is coming back to TV

Nickelodeon

Nineties kids, rejoice! Nickelodeon confirmed that “Double Dare” is coming back this summer with 40 all-new episodes. The last original episode of “Double Dare” aired in 1993, which means today’s kids have REALLY been missing out on the messy fun.

What do they know about catching pies in their pants? Or Sundae Slides? Or Human Hamster Wheels? What do they know about picking a giant nose filled with gloopy green goo in order to find a hidden flag and victory buried deep inside?

Well, they’re about to find out about alllllll these classic games and then some, because Nickelodeon is bringing back the most awesome kids’ competition show ever.

The reboot is thanks in part to the joyous reception that a recent 30th anniversary special of “Double Dare” received from nostalgic viewers (and presumably those viewers’ own children).

Marc Summers, who was the host of “Double Dare” throughout its run from 1986 until 1993, has not yet revealed if he will be hosting the reboot. But it just wouldn’t be the same without him! He was always so affable and good-natured, even when he himself winded up getting slimed or splashed with goo.

“‘Double Dare’ was the show for a particular generation,” Summers said in an interview a couple years ago. “For the kids of the ’80s and ’90s, they laughed and learned, and got messy in the process. Thirty years later, I believe it’s still the gold standard.”

We have a hunch that Summers might be returning. The host did share this link to a Nickelodeon press release about the “Double Dare” reboot on his Twitter page, along with the comment “Isn’t this interesting.”

Hmmm, that kind of sounds like he might be dropping us a hint about his involvement?

Here’s the trailer for “Double Dare” and its upcoming reboot below:

Are you excited yet? Who else is ready to get slimed?
