This adorable owl monitor keeps an eye on your nest when you’re away

If you’re headed on vacation this summer, you might be looking for a way to keep an eye on your home while you’re away. Meet Ulo, an owl-shaped security camera and the cutest way to monitor your home from afar.

Created by designer Vivien Muller, Ulo has a two-way mirror that looks like a beak, hiding its night-vision camera and built-in motion sensor. Its large owl eyes are actually two LCD screens that inform you of what’s going on.

Ulo’s eyes follow movement in the house, and it squints when someone is watching the live video stream. If its eyes look tired and droopy, it’s time to change the batteries. Check it out in action in the video below:

Successfully funded on Kickstarter, this guy is available to order for €199.00 (about $239). In addition to being super-adorable, the Ulo is different from other security cameras on the market in its superior battery power and its ability to work both indoors and outdoors — features that aren’t as common in competitors. Plus, you can live-stream video from Android or iOS devices, as well as from the web interface.

Ulo aims to replicate aspects of human communication — specifically in the expressiveness of the eyes. “Evidence shows that a number of facial expressions are related to similar emotions across cultures,” reads the product description. “The language of our eyes is one of the most powerful and effective tools of non-verbal communication.”

Would you trust little Ulo to keep an eye on your house while you’re away?
