Panera Bread Now Offers Build Your Own Mac And Cheese

Just a few months after they brought us bacon mac and cheese, Panera Bread is now taking the comfort food a step further. Because of the popularity of the cheesy dish (Panera says they sell 3 million servings each month!), they are adding more choices to the menu with their new build-your-own mac and cheese entree.

To make your mac and cheese truly your mac and cheese, you can select up to five toppings, including two premium toppings — choose from smoked pulled chicken, bacon and avocado — and accompaniments including pico de gallo, apple-cider-vinegar barbecue sauce, frizzled onions and fresh cilantro. If you prefer to make it easy but still want some extra flavor for your mac, Panera has also added two more choices — Baja and barbecue chicken. And Panera says their mac and cheese is made with ingredients free from artificial preservatives, sweeteners, flavors or colors.

“Our Mac & Cheese is so well loved, the idea of messing with a great thing was something we did not take lightly,” Panera’s vice president of food beverage product development, Tom Sadler, said in a press release.

You could say Panera is jumping on a mac and cheese trend — Whole Foods started offering their mac and cheese bar last fall — but really, it seems like they’re just giving us what we always wanted.

The new build your own mac and cheese entree is available for digital ordering and delivery through the Panera app and website at participating locations. You can also have Panera cater a party with their build your own mac bar — perfect when you want to make sure all your guests have something they enjoy.
