Papa John’s now has jalapeño popper rolls
If you’re getting tired of eating plain breadsticks with your pizza, Papa John’s has a brand new side item that is sure to spice up your meal.
The pizza chain’s new jalapeño popper rolls feature the spicy heat of jalapeño chilled out by cream cheese, which is wrapped up in Papa John’s pizza dough. An order of eight rolls is $6 and comes with ranch dipping sauce.
The poppers are baked, not fried like traditional jalapeño poppers, which Papa John’s says highlights the quality and freshness of the dough. They could serve as an appetizer before pizza, side dish or as simply a snack if you don’t have time to sit down to pizza.
“With our Jalapeño Popper Rolls, we are delivering our unique take on one of America’s classic appetizers,” Papa John’s Paul Fabre said in a press release. “Our guests can add this new tasty side to bring a little spice to pizza night!”
Of course, if you do still want regular breadsticks, you can get those too. Papa John’s has four different breadsticks flavors in addition to the new poppers, including original, cheese sticks and garlic parmesan breadsticks and garlic knots.
Along with pizza, both the poppers and breadsticks would also be a perfect match to another new item on Papa John’s menu: the Papadia, an Italian-style flatbread sandwich and pizza in one. While full of toppings you’d get on a pizza, it is technically a sandwich, as the toppings are folded into the pizza crust, instead of sitting on top like a traditional pizza.
You can get a Papadia for $6 in four varieties: Italian, Philly cheesesteak, grilled barbecue chicken and bacon and meatball pepperoni. Each is served with a different sauce: pizza, garlic or barbecue.
But back to those jalapeño popper rolls. If you don’t have a Papa John’s near you, you can try your hand at baking your own at home instead. This recipe from Cookie and Kate doesn’t have dough, but does call for sprinkling some crushed barbecue potato chips on top.
