This Simple Trick Will Help Your Dog Look Forward To Bath Time

Why did we think of this earlier?

If you’re a pet owner, you know how hard it is to get a scared, uncomfortable dog to stand still in the bathtub during a wash. Dogs are often shaky, slippery and downright ornery at bath time. That is, until this genius trick hit the internet.

Does your dog go crazy for a taste of peanut butter? Yes, of course he does (as anyone who has ever filled a Kong toy with the sticky substance can attest)! And you can use that sweet treat to keep him occupied in the bathtub while you scrub him down. All you have to do is smear some peanut butter on the wall. Your pooch will get to licking the treat and you can get to bathing.

Watch and learn, people, watch and learn!

In the above video, you can see that the person washing the dog is using a detachable shower head, but we think it would be just as easy to do this trick with a tub filled with a few inches of water and a cup to pour it over the dog. Just make sure that the peanut butter is applied in an area that’s easy for your dog to reach. I have two short little dachshunds—so my peanut butter would be right on the actual bathtub, as opposed to the shower wall.

This is a particularly good dog-bathing strategy to use when you have to do a heavy duty wash, like when your dog has rolled in mud, been sprayed by a skunk or otherwise gotten extra dirty. The peanut butter provides you with extra time to be more thorough during your doggie scrubdown.

YouTuber Woodsie the American Bully shared the idea of putting peanut butter on a wall during a dog bath back in April of this year, with a little more detail, including a how-to. As you can see, her dog, Woodsie, is totally pumped to jump in the tub, once he knows that peanut butter is on the wall.
