People are debating the right way to draw an ‘x’
Drawing an X sounds pretty simple, right? After all, you’ve been doing it since kindergarten, if not earlier. Well, as it turns out, there’s more than one way to do it.
It all started when Twitter user @SMASEY tweeted out a graphic of the eight different ways to draw the letter accompanied by the question, “This is so interesting to me – which way do you draw an x? Colored line being the first stroke.”

People quickly began answering her query. Much like “Laurel vs. Yanny” and “the dress” before it, this simple tweet became a huge internet sensation. Naturally, people were completely divided over which of the eight ways demonstrated the “right” way to draw an X. The tweet has been re-tweeted more than 20,000 times and has more than 31,000 responses.
After a lot of input from people from different walks of life, @SMASEY determined that the way you draw an X may depend on where you’re from:

“General consensus is that Americans do 7 & 8 while UK does 5 & 6,” she wrote. “Probably how we were taught. Not sure about other countries.”
While some were steadfast that their method was the proper one, others realized they had never given the matter much thought.
Canadian news producer Kelsey Campbell remarked that she thought she knew how to draw an X until she tried it:
Saw this. Immediately forgot how I have been drawing x's my entire lift. Had to write each one down. None felt right. Taking all words with x's out of my vocabulary until further notice.

I thought I was a 7 myself, but I’m now second-guessing it as well! Which way do you think is correct?
