Dolly Parton is an iconic country musician, so much so that another superstar couldn’t help but honor her—by dressing up as her! Adele dressed up as Parton and made for one convincing lookalike.

The singer posted her Parton impersonation to social media with the caption, “The effortless queen of song, Dolly Parton! We love you! We wish we could possess an ounce of your ability. You were the hero of our night! A hero of my life. I’ll always love you.”

What’s more, Parton responded to Adele, commenting on the post, “And I will always love you.” So, the admiration and respect is mutual between these two amazing artists!

The “I will always love you” line is likely a reference to Parton’s hit song by that title. She wrote and recorded the song, and it debuted in 1974, quickly making its way to the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. So, yes. Before Whitney Houston sang it—Parton did.

The exact reason for Adele’s costume party isn’t known, but Parton did celebrate her 72nd birthday on Jan. 19, so Adele could very well have been celebrating that with a little Dolly-inspired dress-up session. How fun!

But, Parton took it a step further and posted a video to let Adele know how much the post meant to her.

“I was so honored,” Parton said. “I was really touched with what you said. I was really honored that you would even know me that well or like my music.”

We can only imagine that Adele was thrilled with Parton’s reply!

And now fans are cheering for these two singers perform together!

“Duet! Duet! Duet!” one person wrote on Twitter.

To which someone responded, “I don’t know if I could even handle that.”

But seriously—how great would it be to hear these two incredible vocalists sing together? Fingers crossed it happens! In the meantime, we’ll just be here adoring the mutual respect and admiration these women are showing for each other!
