These Photos Of Disney World Deserted Before Hurricane Matthew Are So Eerie

Bryan Perri/Instagram

Because of Hurricane Matthew, Disney World looked like a ghost town last Friday. That’s because, for only the fourth time in the park’s 45-year history, it was closed all day.

In order to prepare for the storms, Disney World closed all four of its parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios) at 5 p.m. and didn’t open until 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Disney World also waived hotel cancellation fees and communicated their refund guidelines for visitors wanting to take a trip to the happiest place on Earth.

The other three times Disney World shut down were also because of hurricanes: Hurricane Jean in 2004 and Hurricanes Frances and Floyd in 1999.

Before the storms came and the park was shut down for good, some guests in the park started to take some photos. Disney World is usually completely packed, so seeing it nearly empty is so bizarre.

Have a look for yourself.

Doesn’t this photo make you think of John Candy’s character in “National Lampoon’s Vacation”? It looks like the scene where he tells Clark Griswold, “Sorry sir, park’s closed.” We hope a real-life family didn’t drive across the country, only to arrive at Disney World and find it closed.
