On July 9, the royal family stepped out for a very important event in honor of 11-week-old Prince Louis. The littlest member of the royal family was christened at the Chapel Royal in St. James’s Palace in London.

Prince Louis is lucky to have a number of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s close friends as godparents. Godmothers include Lady Laura Meade, wife of James Meade, Princess Charlotte’s godfather; Hannah Carter, Middleton’s friend from college; and Lucy Middleton, her cousin.

Godfathers include Nicholas van Custem, a longtime royal family friend; Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, who attended both prep school and college with Prince William; and Guy Pelly, another longtime family friend, who also planned Prince William’s bachelor party ahead of his 2011 wedding.

Of course, older siblings Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 3, were also in attendance for the christening, and the whole family looked happy and elegant following the ceremony:

Other members of the royal family were also on hand for the event, including, of course, Prince Louis’ uncle and aunt, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Here they are exiting the chapel after the christening:

Prince Louis’ grandparents, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla Parker Bowles), also looked happy and proud on the day of his christening:

The service conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, whom we last saw officiating Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding on May 19.

It certainly seems like it was a joyous occasion for all who attended! Although he was the guest of honor, Prince Louis apparently didn’t let the occasion cut into his nap schedule, as he was seen peacefully snoozing in his mother’s arms:

How sweet! The beautiful garment Prince Louis is wearing is the Royal Christening Robe, which was made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria’s oldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal. The garment is made of Honiton lace and lined with white satin. The robe has been passed down through the generations and worn by many members of the royal family.
