Universal Orlando’s Harry Potter Ride On Hagrid’s Motorbike Will Have A Free-Fall Vertical Drop

Harry Potter fans: Do you have a strong interest in the care of magical creatures? Have you ever imagined what it’d be like to get a ride to Hogwarts on the back of Hagrid’s motorcycle?

If so, the newest rollercoaster at Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter is right up your Diagon Alley. The Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure ride opens June 13, and it looks totally awesome.

In a press release, Universal calls the new ride a “storycoaster,” but don’t be fooled. This wild ride is not for the little ones. The attraction is one of the first American coasters to include a vertical free fall, with a surprise 17-foot drop at some point during the ride.

Elsewhere in the ride, thrill-seekers zoom 65 feet into the air at a 70-degree angle, then come rolling down backwards. The ride also features seven “launches,” or bursts of acceleration — the most of any coaster in the world, according to the park. (This part especially sounds like a very accurate realization of Hagrid’s uniquely terrifying driving style.)

The “storycoaster” element comes in as guests enter the ride. While waiting to board their very own flying motorcycles and sidecars, riders make their way through mysterious abandoned ruins.

Hagrid and his pet dog Fang are within the ruins, plus a centaur, Fluffy the three-headed dog and even a Blast-Ended Skrewt.

Not a bad way to spend a long wait in line — just watch out for the blasty bit on that skrewt.

On Twitter, Potter fans are already buzzing about the coaster’s opening. User @talah_tayeb doesn’t usually go for wild roller coasters but is ready to overcome that fear:

And Twitter user @Journey_on1 was just passing by and heard some eerie sounds outside the ride:

Meanwhile, @AllonsyArmando is already planning the perfect timing for his ride with Hagrid:

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is part of the new Hogsmeade addition to the Orlando park’s Wizarding World. Which is a very good thing — after completing the Motorbike Adventure, you just might need to pop into the Hog’s Head pub for a Butterbeer.
