America Is Divided On Whether Pineapple Is An Acceptable Pizza Topping

It’s no question that we are a nation divided. But I’m not talking about politics or religion. I’m talking about one of the most controversial pizza toppings: pineapple.

I’m somewhat picky about my pizza toppings. While I really prefer pepperoni or even plain cheese, I at least try to flexible. Mushrooms? OK. Green peppers? Not my favorite, but I’ll pick them off. But there’s one topping I really have to put foot down on, and that’s pineapple. And it turns out, I’m not alone.

The pizza delivery app Slice surveyed 34,000 people to get some answers about America’s pizza preferences. One of the debates it settled once and for all? Whether or not pineapple is an acceptable pizza topping. On this issue, I side with the clear majority: 54 percent of respondents said pineapple and pizza just don’t mix.

Pizza fans have weighed in on the topic on Twitter, and both sides are passionate about their stance. This user advised ignoring the detractors when it comes to enjoying the fruit on your slice:

Meanwhile, this Twitter user thinks the topping is downright shameful:

If the pineapple war has got you wondering if we can ever all get along, the survey found people were able to unite against a common enemy: anchovies. A whopping 86 percent of respondents said the salty fish is a no-no when it comes to pizza toppings.

The Slice survey also sought to decide which city has the better ‘za: Chicago or New York. As a lifelong Chicagoan, I think we need a recount: 62 percent said the best pie comes from the Big Apple.

I was also surprised to learn that 62 percent of people deemed dipping your pizza in ranch dressing unacceptable. Not the healthiest choice, sure, but it is tasty!

Despite our many differences, hopefully we can all agree on one thing: Pizza is amazing, any way you slice it (no pun intended)!
