We all know how bad the flu has been this year, and even celebrities aren’t immune to it. Pink was slated to sing the national anthem at Super Bowl LII, and just days before her performance she posted on social media about coming down with the flu.

But the singer didn’t let the sickness stop her! Pink performed the national anthem—flu and all—and fellow celebrities and fans alike couldn’t have been more blown away by her performance.

Apparently, Pink had been looking forward to singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” for decades. So, you can imagine how difficult it was for her to finally get the chance—only to come down with the flu.

“I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come,” Pink wrote on Instagram. “I’ve arrived at another one of my dreams which is slowly becoming a sort of nightmare.”

As far as how she caught the flu—well, she says she has her two small children to thank for that.

“And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek,” the superstar mom wrote. “You can’t write this stuff I swear.”

But Pink is a strong woman, mom and performer, so this was a simple case of “the show must go on.” And, boy, did it ever! Watch the under-the-weather Pink belt out the national anthem in the video below:

And fans couldn’t help but cheer her on in this very special, well-deserved moment. Many fellow celebrities took to social media to express how impressed they were by Pink’s performance—and her perseverance.

Comedian Kathy Griffin even called the singer her “quarterback.” For her, it wasn’t about the sports!

Actress Ruby Rose called her the “Leonardo DiCaprio” of music.

Some even went so far as to call Pink the “MVP” of the Super Bowl.

Pink’s biggest fans, however, were definitely her family. Her husband posted a touching message letting his wife know how truly proud he was of her on this special night.

“I am beyond proud of this woman,” he wrote. “The roller coaster that she went through this last week with getting sick and losing her voice would have broke any ordinary person.”

Oh, and those adorable children who may have gotten her sick in the first place? They were by her side to show their support leading up to the performance.

Here’s to Pink for accomplishing one of her goals and continuing to inspire us all—flu or no flu!
