These 6 Craft Fails Prove That DIYs Aren’t As Easy As They Look

We’ve all been there before. You spend hours pouring through Pinterest, becoming inspired all the while. But, when you finally set your sights towards recreating a DIY you pinned, you don’t always yield such Pinterest-worthy results.

What went wrong? You followed the directions step by step, but somehow, you’re not quite the crafter you thought you were.

Like I said, it happens to the best of us. Even if you don’t get an incredible dish or a great home renovation out of the project, at least you can have a good laugh about it, right?

Scroll through these six attempts at greatness, but be prepared to cry with laughter. Don’t worry, we’re not laughing at these people, we’re laughing right along with them. Because let’s face it — craft projects are sometimes easier pinned than done.

  1. Sponge Bob cake

It’s the thought that counts … right? Well, whoever decorated this Sponge Bob Squarepants cake thought they were a lot more talented at frosting than they actually are!

2. Baby footprints

Preserving this kiddo’s footprints in clay for posterity was a nice thought … but it didn’t work out so well in reality.

3. Gingerbread house

This Halloween gingerbread house-gone-wrong truly is scary.

4. Chocolate Coke bottles

This at-home crafter tried to make chocolate Coke bottles. Instead, as she commented on her Instagram post, “I am covered in chocolate and disappointment.”

5. Paper maché mummy

This (attempted) Halloween paper maché mummy looks waaaay too happy to have risen from the dead.

6. Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer cake

Quick, calling the casting department at “Nailed It”! As far as cake fails go, this one isn’t so bad.
