These police officers had a hilarious response when donuts fell off a Krispy Kreme delivery truck

If you need proof that law enforcement officials can have a sense of humor, the Brookhaven Police Department in Georgia has gone to great lengths to bring a smile to the faces of their Facebook followers. The department recently shared the details of a serious accident, involving … Krispy Kreme donuts.

For many people — not just police officers — the thought of dozens of donuts falling from a Krispy Kreme delivery truck is indeed a tragedy. The cops themselves described it as “the call each of us fears most” and revealed that they “found total carnage” when they arrived at the scene. Some of the donuts had even found their way into the gutter.

“The response time was stellar, but we couldn’t beat the 5 second rule,” the department wrote on Facebook. “We are deeply saddened to report that the donuts were a total loss.”

To convey just how difficult the incident was, the post included crying-face emojis. And in true social media fashion, the police department was liberal with its hashtags, including #OnlyHalfKidding, #TheyLookedDelicious, #WeKnowItsAstereotype, #NoShame and #DonutsMakeEveryoneHappy at the end of the caption.

One of the tragic pictures shared showed “the final resting spot of the once glorious glazed donuts.”

Naturally, the police received a huge amount of support. The original post currently shows 10,000 reactions, 10,00 shares and 1,400 comments.

The nearby Gainesville police department even expressed their condolences, sending an intact box of Krispy Kreme donuts with “Sorry for your loss, hope this helps” written on the top. Hopefully that helped the Brookhaven officers get over their traumatic experience.

“My deepest sympathies go out to the entire Brookhaven PD. Such a significant loss,” one Facebook user commented.

Another questioned the decision to allow a donut truck travel without protection.

“As a former law enforcement officer I do not understand why there was no official escort,” the commenter wrote. “I understand no escort because of budget cuts for things like armored cars but a donut truck should NEVER be allowed to traverse the streets unescorted.”

Another commenter summed it up perfectly by writing, “Such a horrific event. I know you are all traumatized. The Great Doughnut Disaster of 2019 will live on for many hours.”

Too funny! It’s nice to see the lighter side of our men and women in blue sometimes.
