No matter how hard you try to avoid it, you’re likely to find yourself implementing trendy elements into your wedding. And honestly, there’s just no way around it because the themes are everywhere, and they are a great way to add a little something special to your big day.

I mean, how could you pass up using burlap, mason jars or chalkboards whenever possible, especially if you’re were going for a shabby chic kind of vibe? You just couldn’t.

That was so 2015, but 2016’s here now and is bringing in a whole new wave of trends that you’re about to start seeing at all of the summer weddings you’ll be attending.

1. No Flowers

2016 seems to be all about greenery. You’ll see brides opting for green leaves over flowers, which can bring a more tropical or natural feel to the entire event. Whitney Port (of “The Hills” fame) posted a photo from her own wedding day that perfectly captures this look:

2. Selfie Station

Photo booths may not be a thing anymore because selfies are just too fun. Take them it with your phone or with a Polaroid camera for an even more retro feel.

3. Fun Food

To heck with tradition! Who needs a cake when you can have all sorts of desserts displayed in decorative ways?

4. Texture

From gowns to cakes to table settings, this year it’s all about mixing and matching textures for a subtle way to add embellishment.

5. Unique Seating

You’ll start to see that the days of traditional “take a number and find your seat” kind of reception seating is old news. It’s much more comfortable to have little nooks where people can sit and mingle with whomever they’d like. That way, your wedding feels even more like a party than some sort of stuff formality.

It’s hard not to fall in love with trends this good, which is exactly why you’re going to see them everywhere. Here’s to all of the happy, trendy couples that will walk down the aisle in 2016!
