On May 1, a press release announced that a B&B from the future heir to the throne would officially open to the public on May 6. The Granary Lodge is located on the grounds of the Castle of Mey, a castle which was previously owned by the Queen Mother, on the northernmost tip of Scotland near the North Sea.
The lodge will operate as a B&B and offer 10 different bedrooms, including two of which are luxury suites each with their own lounge area and generously proportioned ensuite, according to The Granary Lodge website. The other eight bedrooms are king-sized double rooms.
The estate also has a view of the sea, breakfast service, and a “rural and serene setting in the Castle grounds.” So, if you’re hoping to see what it’s like to live like a royal while vacationing in Scotland, you’ll definitely want to book a stay at this Prince Charles-approved accommodation.
Take a look at what the Granary Lodge has to offer — the grounds seem downright idyllic:
The bedrooms are everything you’d imagine a cozy B&B to be, complete with chandeliers, armoires, and draped fabrics:
The bathrooms offer a spa-like experience fit for a king or queen and include deep tubs that are perfect for soaking:
Prince Charles, who is known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, worked to refurbish the lodge with his foundation, The Prince’s Foundation, with the end goal of increasing Scottish tourism in mind.
According to an Instagram post from the Prince’s official account:
“The accommodation will be owned and operated by The Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey Trust, of which HRH is President, and profits raised will go towards maintaining and operating the estate as a tourist destination in the North Highlands of Scotland”:
A statement from Robert Lovie, the director of outreach for The Prince’s Foundation echoed sentiments of hoping to encourage visits to Scotland:
“We are delighted that The Prince’s vision for The Granary Lodge has been realized and hope the development means more people will visit the North Highlands of Scotland to experience its unique offering to tourists. Our team has completed a wealth of hard work in recent months and is pleased with the result, which we hope will encourage people to spend longer in beautiful Caithness, an area so close to the heart of His Royal Highness,” he said.
A visit to the Granary Lodge will cost you around $400 USD to stay for two nights, plus the price of the flight. But it’s a small price to pay for a vacation fit for a royal highness.
