Who says you have to be perfectly proper all the time when you’re a princess? Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte, daughter of England’s Prince William and Duchess Katherine may be pretty as a picture, but she’s also still a normal little girl who doesn’t seem to mind getting into a little mischief.
William and Kate hosted The King’s Cup regatta, a new fundraising event to benefit eight of their royal highnesses’ patronages, aka charities. The Aug. 9 event pitted the couple against one another in a sailing competition on Fast40+ Class race boats with a crew of 12 people. The royals each acted as skipper of a boat. As they sailed against one another, their two oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, cheered them on from another boat.
At the end of the race (William’s boat beat Kate’s, for those keeping score) Kate brought George and Charlotte out to wave to the crowd gathered for the awards ceremony. Charlotte didn’t seem overly thrilled to smile for the cameras, so Kate tried to encourage her but the 4-year-old princess had another pose in mind, and it was a bit more cheeky than expected.
Instead of smiling, Charlotte stuck her tongue out at everyone!
What parent can’t relate to this awkward moment? And, even though Kate moved quickly to stop her daughter’s antics, like most parents in a similar situation, she managed to find some humor in her middle child’s sass.
This wasn’t little Charlotte’s first time making that expression in front of photographers.
Royal fans may remember another famous instance where the princess stuck out her tongue during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018, where the young royal served as a member of the large wedding party.
We think she looks totally adorable in both pictures. After all, every fabulous princess needs to show some personality once in a while.
