While you can certainly eat pumpkin doughnuts all year round, there’s something extra enjoyable about a freshly baked pumpkin pastry during the winter season.

You don’t need a deep fryer to make this pumpkin doughnut recipe from Allrecipes either. In the recipe shared by Allrecipes contributor Ms Em, you combine flour, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pumpkin puree, eggs, milk and butter to make the dough. You then put that mixture into a pastry bag with a large, star-shaped tip so you can make rings on a baking sheet.

The baked doughnuts are then covered in a pumpkin spice and powdered sugar icing.

A slightly different version of this recipe is glazed pumpkin doughnuts featuring a vanilla-flavored topping. Instead of piping the doughnut dough onto a sheet, you can simply shape them using your fingers.

The recipe author, Allrecipes contributor RainbowJewels, reminded recipe readers in the comments that these are not yeast donuts but cake donuts and will be heavier as a result.

If you’re used to thinking pumpkin recipes are only good for Thanksgiving, we beg to differ. Let us point you to three classic Christmas songs that reference pumpkin pie:

To begin with, “(There’s No Place Like) Home For The Holidays” features the line, “I met a man who lives in Tennessee, and he was heading for/ Pennsylvania and some homemade pumpkin pie.”

“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” includes the line “Later we’ll have some pumpkin pie/ and we’ll do some caroling” and “Sleigh Ride” refers to it in the phrase “When they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin pie.”

So, feel free to enjoy pumpkin treats anytime you like!
