You only need 2 ingredients to make this pumpkin dump cake recipe

With school in session and the holidays fast approaching, any dish that comes together quickly and easily is a welcome addition to our recipe boxes. A dessert recipe that lets us dump ingredients into a bowl, mix it up and drop it into a pan and results in a yummy seasonal cake everyone loves? That’s a win-win.

Better Homes & Gardens shared a two-ingredient pumpkin dump cake recipe that’s not just easy to make, but is also inexpensive. All it requires is a 15-ounce can of pumpkin puree, a box of cake mix and 25 to 30 minutes in the oven. If you’d like, you could top it with your favorite frosting and create a perfect sweet pumpkin bread.


Really, any cake mix will do, but if you are craving fall flavors, something like Betty Crocker’s Super Moist Spice Cake Mix or Duncan Hines’ Signature Spice cake mix will work nicely, because these mixes already have the flavors of the fall season built into the mix. Chocolate-lovers might enjoy a decadent pumpkin bread twist with a box of Duncan Hines’ Devil’s Food cake mix.

Boxed cake mixes usually only cost around $1-$2. And this pumpkin trick is just one way you can take your boxed cake to gourmet status with a few tricks, according to baking bloggers.

For instance, Liv for Cake dishes that adding sour cream can make your cake extra moist and flavorful. She also recommends adding in vanilla. You can also replace the oil that the box calls for with melted butter and water with milk for a more gourmet cake, suggests Sugar Geek Show, a blog run by a cake decorator.
