Cargill Meat Solutions has recalled more than 132,000 pounds of ground beef products over concerns that it may be infected with E. coli.

According to the Food and Safety Inspection (FSIS) service, one person has died and 17 others have been sickened in the outbreak since Aug. 16.

Those who have purchased any of the products below are urged to throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased.

The recall has been classified as a Class I recall, meaning there is a “reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

The FSIS is advising all consumers to only eat ground beef cooked well done to an internal temperature of 160 degrees.

What You Should Know About E. Coli

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 265,000 cases of E.coli infections are reported every year by health professionals. However, it is possible there could be more unreported cases because some people get infected, but the symptoms are not severe enough to go to the doctor to get an official diagnosis.

The CDC notes that symptoms of E. coli include: Severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting and/or a mild fever. Most people recover from the infection within five to seven days. The organization also offers preventative measures to avoid becoming infected with E. Coli, including proper handwashing and kitchen sanitation when preparing food. Cooking meat at proper temperatures; avoiding raw milk, unpasteurized dairy products and juices; and not swallowing water when swimming are also important in order to prevent illness.
