Try This Red Wine Grilled Cheese Recipe, So You Can Eat And Drink At The Same Time

BS’ in the Kitchen blog

A lot of us are probably familiar with the fact that red wine and grilled cheese go very well together. Now, there’s a new item that blends the best of both worlds—red wine grilled cheese. Yep. If it sounds like delicious, gooey goodness, that’s because it is.

The BS’ in the Kitchen blog wrote about it a few years ago, and how have we survived this long without this in our lives? Are you salivating like we are?!

In the past, we’ve written about red wine hot chocolate and wine slushies, but red wine grilled cheese? We’re in a whole new league now.

The best part (aside from eating it, of course)? It’s so simple to make. You just need a few key ingredients, aside from the red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon) and cheese (Gruyere), including red onion, garlic and rosemary.

You first make a wine reduction, and that’s what you’ll spread onto the bread before adding cheese.

You can find the full red wine grilled cheese recipe on the BS’ in the Kitchen blog. So drink—erm, eat!—up!

Of course, you can mix it up and try mixing up the types of wine and cheese you choose to use. Charles Ford, wine director for restaurant The Bristol in Chicago, recommends the following wine-and-cheese pairings:

  • Match a full-bodied red wine, like cabernet sauvignon or Tempranillo, with cheddar cheese
  • Pair Gouda with Chardonnay
  • Try Parmesan with rose

Who knows? Maybe you’ll get inventive and create a rose or white wine grilled cheese sandwich. All we can say is: Yes, please. And if you need any taste-testers, you know where to find us.
