Reese Witherspoon gives daughter Ava a touching 18th birthday gift

Reese Witherspoon’s daughter is all grown up! Ava Phillippe turned 18 on Sept. 9, and her parents celebrated in sweet ways and on Instagram for all of us to see.

According to a photo shared by Ava on Instagram, Witherspoon wrote a letter for her daughter on each of her birthdays and gave all 18 of them to her as her an 18th birthday gift. Ava captioned the photo, “18 letters that made me cry (hard) today, courtesy of my lovely mother.”

Witherspoon also took to Instagram to celebrate, posting a photo of Ava and writing, “Happy 18th Birthday to my sweet girl @avaphillippe! Your kindness, grace, intelligence, and humor never cease to amaze me. I love you and your HUGE [heart] and I feel so lucky that I get to be your mom. #proudmom #18.”

Witherspoon also shared a picture of a grown-up Ava to celebrate. But you might have to do a double-take—Reese and daughter could be twins!

Ava’s father, Ryan Phillippe, also paid tribute to his daughter. He posted multiple photos on Instagram and wrote, “Happy birthday, punk. I love you more than any strangers need read, but… you are the coolest, smartest, most beautiful daughter a father could ever have. And even though you’re no longer a child, you’ll always be my little girl. Happy 18th, princess.”

And check this out—it looks like Ava was a great early birthday present for her dad 18 years ago, as just one day after her own birthday, she returned the sweet gesture in an Instagram post celebrating his birthday. “Happy birthday, dadish!,” she wrote. “Love being your early bday present. ❤”

Ava’s parents met on Reese Witherspoon’s twenty-first birthday and later stared in the movie “Cruel Intentions” together. They were married in 1999 (Witherspoon was three months pregnant with Ava at the time) and divorced in 2007, but are still friends and along with Ava, also have a son named Deacon, who was born in 2003.

Witherspoon has since remarried and had another son, Tennessee, while Ryan also has a six-year-old daughter with actress Alexis Knapp.

“You have to get to that point as a divorced parent, as any parent, where you’re not putting yourself first,” Phillippe told Entertainment Tonight last year. “You want the kids’ experience to be its own and not like, ‘Well, I need to have my time!’ We have been very good about that.”

Looks like that philosophy has served everyone well.
