Another Stephen King movie remake is in the works
Ever since he broke through with his debut novel, “Carrie,” in 1974, Stephen King has pretty much been the master of all things horror. He has published dozens of novels, including “Cujo,” “Firestarter” and “The Shining,” and has sold more than 350 million copies of his books.
The prolific author was once again in the spotlight with the recent film remake of his seminal novel, “It.” The story of a creepy clown that terrorizes a group of children was first adapted into a TV series in 1990, and was once again revived as a blockbuster movie in 2017.
Good news for horror movie fanatics: Another classic King novel-turned-movie has a remake in the works. The original film adaption of King’s “Pet Sematary” premiered back in 1989.
Now, Paramount has struck a deal with directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch (“Starry Eyes”) to remake the classic horror movie about a family that buries their deceased cat in a cemetery meant for pets.
Their beloved cat comes back to life as a demonic version of his former self. Eventually, humans are buried there in an attempt to bring them back to life as well, and I won’t spoil the rest of the movie for you, but as you might guess, things pretty much go south from there. (If you haven’t read “Pet Sematary,” you should—especially before you see the film.)
Hollywood has been interested in a “Pet Sematary” remake for some time.
“My affection for ‘Pet Sematary’ will go on until I die,” Andy Muschietti, the director of the 2017 “It” film, told Entertainment Weekly back in September. “I will always dream about the possibility of making a movie.”
Back in 2015, film director, screenwriter, producer and novelist Guillermo del Toro praised “Pet Sematary” and expressed his interest in remaking the movie in a tweet:
Book of the Day: PET SEMATARY by Stephen King. Unrelentingly dark and emotional. Compulsive reading. Would kill to make it on film.

Unfortunately for Muschietti and del Toro, it seems like Widmyer and Kolsch have beat them to the punch, but they can catch it at the theater like the rest of us! We can’t wait to see what the new “Pet Sematary” has in store!
The list of films that have been made that were based on Stephen King’s novels, novellas or short stories is somewhat astounding. From well-known horror productions such as the “Children of the Corn” series of films, “Misery” and “The Shining” (King’s been vocal about his distaste for the film version of his novel) to classics such as “Stand By Me” and “The Shawshank Redemption,” King’s contribution to cinema is quite impressive indeed.
Fan reaction to the upcoming “Pet Sematary” remake is a mixed bag of excitement and fear on social media.
#PetSematary movie was horribly-acted crap, save for the heart-wrenching scene of Gage's death.
Film deserves a remake.— Leigo…Unity=Submission #AmericaFirst #SCowardsOTUS (@yieldright) October 31, 2017
Wow. I shouldn't be surprised yet a #PetSematary do-over seemed inevitable after how successful "It" was. https://t.co/Kq5ofa7gZn

Instead of remaking Pet Sematary how about someone get an original idea?

What do you think? Should “Pet Sematary” get a remake and will you go watch it?
