Restaurant makes dying woman’s wish come true by shipping her a milkshake

This very important milkshake was shipped 375 miles overnight.

A restaurant in Cleveland made a wish come true for a dying woman.

Emily Pomeranz was suffering from a second bout of pancreatic cancer and living in hospice in the D.C. area when her friend, Sam Klein, asked her if she had any special food requests. Pomeranz told Klein that she could really go for a mocha milkshake from Tommy’s Restaurant in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where the two grew up.

Because the restaurant was 375 miles away, Klein wasn’t sure he could pull off the request. Determined to grant his friend’s dying wish, he reached out to the restaurant online to see if he could make it happen.

To his delight, the owner, Tommy Fello, responded and said he would make it work.

“This was my first request like this,” Fello told Fox 8. “I wasn’t even sure if we’d be able to do it.”

With the help of dry ice and a $123 overnight shipping bill, the shake made it to Pomeranz. Klein posted a photo of a smiling Pomeranz about to enjoy the milkshake on Facebook.

In the post, Klein shared the joy Pomeranz derived from having her final wish granted, writing, “She was thrilled. She shared it with her family. She talked about it for days and days. She shared the story with her friends back in Cleveland and here in the D.C. area. It was something that made everyone smile. A woman’s request for one last milkshake from her favorite restaurant. Wish granted!”

Sadly, Pomeranz passed away four days after getting to enjoy her favorite frozen treat one last time.

The heartwarming Facebook post soon went viral and garnered over 6,000 likes and an outpouring of support for Klein’s good deed.

“A sad but beautiful story…You can see the joy in her eyes…what a good person and friend you are,” read one comment.

“The simple things that make a big difference. Thank you for sharing,” said another.

For his part, Fello was glad he was able to be a part of the touching gesture. “What they say is true; giving is more important than receiving,” Fello told Fox 8. “It’s a better reward.”

Tommy’s Restaurant website says “Whether you’re a vegetarian, meat eater, vegan, or just plain hungry.Tommy will take care of you!” and notes that Rolling Stone magazine once voted the restaurant “Best Milkshake East of the Missisippi.”

The site says that the shakes and menu have stayed the same since the “soda fountain” opened back in 1972.

The online menu shows a wide range of milkshake flavors available, from peach to moosetracks. You can order the shake made with yogurt instead of ice cream—or even with Tofutti if that’s your style!

Based on Emily’s endorsement, however, we’d have to say the mocha is probably the way to go.
