This Decadent Rocky Road Smoothie Is Actually Good For You

Aloha

If the thought of making a smoothie for breakfast makes you roll your eyes and see visions of a blender filled with spinach and kale, I understand. While I happen to like my smoothies with lots of fruits and veggies, it’s not for everyone.

Luckily, even if a smoothie isn’t green and you can’t see actual fruit, it doesn’t mean it’s not healthy. In fact, some smoothies can pretty much look like dessert and still be good for you, like this rocky road smoothie from ALHOA.

The smoothie combines protein powder and almond milk with a banana, coconut yogurt, zucchini, cacao powder, and chia seeds. It is then topped with slivered almonds, almond butter, and vegan marshmallows. And yet, still pretty healthy!

Check out the full recipe, which makes two servings:

Rocky Road Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 large frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup coconut yogurt
  • 2 scoops ALOHA chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen zucchini
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • Slivered almonds, almond butter and organic vegan marshmallows for topping

Directions:

  1. Place half of the coconut yogurt on the bottom of two glasses.
  2. Blend all remaining ingredients except toppings in a blender on high.
  3. Pour smoothie into the glasses and top with the remaining coconut yogurt, almond slivers, almond butter and marshmallows.

Aloha

Of course, you can modify the recipe a bit, like using a different chocolate protein powder or you can use regular, non-vegan marshmallows if you wish. While a rocky road smoothie definitely looks like it would make a great dessert, you really could use it for any meal of the day since it has fruit, vegetables, and protein!

Or if time is an issue for you, Target even sells pre-made smoothie cups. The Thrive! cups all contain fruits and vegetables, so all you have to do is mix them in the blender with a liquid, such as water or almond milk.
