Best friends are there for each other through the good and the bad, and that’s exactly what actresses Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shannen Doherty exemplify on a regular basis.

In 2015 Doherty announced she has breast cancer, and has been very open about her battle since then.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, her good friend, Gellar, spoke about what it’s been like to see her friend show nothing but bravery throughout this process.

“Shannen’s incredible. What she’s done for other women going through it is… so brave, and that’s what real bravery is, is to go through the hardest part of your life and show people, it’s OK to be scared,” Gellar said of Doherty, who has been public about her struggle with breast cancer. “And it’s OK to be vulnerable, and you can do it.”

Gellar was on set to talk about her most recent project, a cookbook titled, “Stirring Up Fun With Food,” when she opened up about Doherty.

While Gellar was saying kind things about her friend, Doherty was doing her part to show her support, too.

Doherty posted to Instagram, writing, “Laying in bed watching my friend @sarahmgellar on #watchwhathappenslive Sarah you are a class act. From your pinky toe to the top of your head,” she wrote. “I am so very proud of you and not just for your success with @foodstirs or your amazing career or your new book, #stirringupfunwithfood but for the warm, generous, supportive, loving person you are. I’m privileged to know you and love you. #proudofmygirl.”

Mutual support. That’s what friendship is all about.

Doherty spoke about battling cancer on “The Dr. Oz Show” and said that it was actually her friends and family that she was worried about most.

“You worry most about the people that you love and making sure that they are going to be okay. For me, that was the hardest part,” she said.

From the looks of it, the people who truly love her, like Gellar, aren’t afraid of what she’s going through. Instead, they’re inspired. They’re there to encourage and love her, just as she’s continuing to do for them.
